Viennese Waltz

Developed in Southern Germany in the 17th century, the Viennese Waltz blossomed to the music of Johann Strauss. Viennese Waltz is a fast paced version of the slow Waltz, characterized by rotational, progressive and dynamic movement accompanied by leg and body swing.

HISTORY OF VIENNESE WALTZ

The Waltz developed in Central Europe form the Austrian dance known as the Landler.

The fast whirling of dance partners held as if in an embrace shocked polite society. The music of johann Strauss and the famous ballrooms of Vienna made this faster version of the waltz the “Viennese Waltz” popular.

VIENNESE WALTZ DANCE STEPS

Viennese Waltz is known for its alternating right and left  turning boxes as couples fly around the floor with elegance and style. There is less up and down in Viennese waltz than in standard waltz because of the increase in speed. Viennese Waltz is twice as fast as its more common parent dance.\

Learning Viennese Waltz will teach movement across the floor with balance and control, t also teachers passing actions and crossing steps. Quick direction changes are also mastered in this dance.

VIENNESE WALTZ MUSIC

Viennese waltz is written in ¾ or 6/8 time. The only difference between waltz and Viennese Waltz is speed. Waltz is normally twenty four to thirty one measures per minute and Viennese Waltz is typically fifty two at the slowest and sixty five at the fastest with most being around fifty nine or sixty measures per minute.
