HISTORY OF WALTZ DANCING

The Waltz is widely considered the mother of all modern partner dancers. It was developed In southern Germany in the early 1600’s and quickly spread throughout Europe and now has enthusiasts all around the globe. Waltz was the first dance to have the men  and women embrace in a closed hold and was considered borderline risqué by 16th century standards. Now the Waltz is considered the most conservative of all the partnered dances, how the world has changed.

WALTZ DANCE STEPS

The Waltz is a slow dance that uses sweeping turns, rise and fall, changing tempos and picture steps to create an elegant sophisticated look on the dance floor.  Its romantic side is best seen imagining Cinderella at the ball being whisked around the floor by prince charming. Students often describe Waltz as dancing on a cloud.

WHAT WILL LEARNING WALTZ DO FOR MY DANCING?

Learning Waltz is the fastest way to develops Grace and Poise on and off of the dance floor. Developing good posture will make anyone look more attractive as well as more nimble around the floor. Waltz also works on the feet and ankles developing better Balance and control through all movements.  It also works on drive and drift which develop flow and movement across the floor

WALTZ MUSIC

Waltz music is written in ¾ time. What that means is if you were tapping the beat out, after every 3 taps the music would start over. All other music we dance too is either 2 taps or 4 taps making waltz a must for a well rounded dancer. It is used in all types of music from jazz to county to oldies, pop and even classical

Waltzes are played at almost every formal occasion; parties, balls, weddings….  Waltzes are also played in country bars and dancehalls, jazz combos, cruises and more. Ballroom dance clubs and most live bands know at least one waltz on request.
